Newsgroups and list serves provide a forum for
users to communicate, share insights and learn from the experiences of their colleagues
around the world. While Workinfo.com does not sponsor all of these discussion groups, it
does participate in many of them. They represent valuable methods for networking amongst
like minded professionals, using internet and email technology. Caveat subscriptor: some
forums are very active, and unless you select the daily digest summaries or full text
daily digest, you may receive up to 50 emails per day. On the other hand, selecting the
digest option (if available on the list serve) defeats the object of responding to daily
discussions.Instructions on joining a listserv of your choice are included below. Listservs: A Definition
Listservs take each message a member of the list sends and copies it to every other member
of the list. This creates an e-mail discussion between all the members of the list. But
the best way to understand how it works, is to try it out. It costs nothing, and you can
easily unsubscribe if you wish.
Vacations:
When you go on extended vacations, remember to alter your settings to a listserv
group. You could find hundreds of mail messages waiting for you on your return. Besides
you could incur the wroth of your ISP provider if your mail messages are not collected
daily. In some instances it may be wise to describe for the period you are away and
re-subscribe on your return. Other listservs hosted by onelist and eGroups.com allow you
to reconfigure your settings for the period you are away. For example, you can select
"Read on the web only" option at eGroups.com
