Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) - USA

The
Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) is a non-profit
organisation that provides competency-based curriculum management,
assessment and evaluation systems to education and training programs.
These systems are learner-centred and are designed to meet the needs
of adults and youth in today's multi-cultural society. CASAS has
developed systems for ABE, ESL, employment preparation (ECS),
workforce learning (WLS), special education including developmental
and learning disabilities, and secondary education (SDP). CASAS is
validated by the U.S. Department of Education, National Diffusion
Network and is being used throughout the United States and is being
adapted for use in Australia by the Assessment Research Centre at the
University of Melbourne.

Please note: the following standards were not created and are
not endorsed by the NSSB. These documents are the results of
Pilot Projects
sponsored by the Departments of Labor and Education. In
1992 and 1993, the U.S. Departments of Labor and Education entered
into cooperative agreements, called demonstration projects, with
22 organizations, which represented a wide range of industries.
Each project demonstrated an approach to setting voluntary skill
standards. Building on these activities, in June 1996, the
National Skill Standards Board sponsored nine 1-year grants to 12
industry and research groups.
