BASIC CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT ACT, NO 75 OF 1997
INVESTIGATION OF CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT AND MINIMUM WAGES IN THE
UNSKILLED LABOUR SECTOR, SOUTH AFRICA.
I, Membathisi Mphumzi Shepherd Mdladlana, Minister of Labour, hereby
give notice, in
terms of section 52 (3) of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act,
No 75 of 1997, of
the commencement of the investigation of conditions of employment
and minimum wages in the unskilled labour sector , South Africa.
The terms of reference for the research are set out below:
'To conduct an investigation into conditions of employment and wages
in respect of all classes of employees in the under-mentioned
sectors in the Republic of South Africa.
- Brewing or bottling of beer and/ or mineral water.
- Bunkering.
- Cement products.
- Construction plant hires services.
- Delivery services, including messenger services.
- Demolition of buildings.
- Excavating, levelling or pumping of sand soil or gravel.
- Garden services.
- Maintenance of agricultural or industrial show grounds.
- Manufacturing of bone meal.
- Manufacturing of carpets.
- Manufacturing of food for domestic animals.
- Manufacturing of fertiliser.
- Manufacture of glucose, dextrose cornflower, starch or
gelatine.
- Manufacture or mending of Hessian, jute or other bags.
- Manufacture of tanning extract
- Pest control services
- Preparing sites for building or other purposes.
- Purification, grinding or packing of salt.
- Quarrying including stone crushing.
- Shipping agencies.
- Tending of racehorses.
- Water paper recovery.
- Funeral undertaking.'
Interested parties are hereby given the opportunity of making
written representations to the Director-General, Labour. Such
representations should reach the Executive Manager:
Employment Standards, Department of Labour, Private Bag XI 17,
Pretoria, 0001 within
90 days after publication of this notice.
